The TX-NR901 has some internal improvements such updated, higher-resolution digital-to-analog converters. The TX-NR901 can also upconvert composite and S-video input signals to component video before they're output- and it routes its onscreen menus and displays to the component output as well. This means you only have to have one connection from your TV to your receiver and won't ever have to change video inputs on your TV. The other "news" with this new model is the addition of a new-and-improved remote control. The TX-NR901's remote has a larger, "smarter" preprogrammed/learning remote with a scroll-wheel selector and a small two-line LCD readout which displays both the selected input and component that the remote is set up to control. The remote can also be switched between IR and RF modes. RF mode, which works between walls and floors, is particularly useful when the receiver is being used in a second room or behind a cabinet door.
